Welcome to Shelbyville has received international recognition as a film that demonstrates the tensions between Americans and their new immigrant neighbors and how those tensions can be addressed so that all residents feel unified in their communities.
The full-length documentary has inspired Active Voice to create Shelbyville Multimedia, an interactive multimedia platform that provides tools and resources to help communities facilitate discussion amongst current residents and new immigrants.

Welcome to Shelbyville has also been an important, integral part of the Welcoming America organization’s efforts to create welcoming atmospheres in communities across the country. Hundreds of screenings of Welcome to Shelbyville sponsored and organized by Welcoming America have taken place all across the country.
